Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect only what we need to run the site and deliver your courses. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties beyond what payment processing requires. You can contact us at any time to ask what we hold about you.

Who We Are

This website is operated by Kevin Amayi, a full stack developer based in Kenya. The site offers free technical blog posts and paid video courses covering developer tools, automation, and AI workflows.

This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. It applies to all visitors to kevinamayi.com and to anyone who purchases a course.

Applicable law This policy is written in compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. If you are accessing the site from outside Kenya, your local data protection law may also apply.

Information We Collect

Account and contact information

When you create an account or purchase a course, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your password (stored in encrypted form — we cannot read it)

Payment information

When you make a purchase, we collect the information needed to process the transaction:

  • M-Pesa payments: your phone number is used to initiate the STK push. We do not store your M-Pesa PIN or any transaction credentials.
  • Card payments: card details are handled entirely by our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number, CVV, or expiry date.

Course and usage data

Once you’re enrolled, we track your progress through the course — which lessons you’ve completed and when. This is used to generate your certificate of completion and to let you resume where you left off.

Technical data

Like most websites, we automatically collect basic technical information when you visit:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring URL
  • Device type

This data is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used. It is not tied to your name or email address.

Payment Processing

M-Pesa

M-Pesa payments are processed through Safaricom’s Daraja API. When you pay via M-Pesa, your phone number is sent to Safaricom to initiate the payment request. Safaricom’s own privacy policy governs how they handle that transaction. We receive a payment confirmation from Safaricom and use it to activate your course access.

Card payments

Card payments are handled by a PCI-compliant payment processor. Your card details are entered directly on the processor’s secure form — they never pass through our servers. We receive a payment confirmation and use it to activate your course access.

No refunds All course purchases are final. Before buying, read the course description and outline carefully. If you have questions about whether a course covers what you need, contact us before purchasing and we will answer honestly.

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your course progress, and understand how visitors use the site. Cookies are small text files stored in your browser.

Essential cookies

These are required for the site to function. They keep your session active, remember your login state, and track your course progress. You cannot opt out of these without losing access to your account.

Analytics cookies

We use analytics tools to understand which content is useful and where people drop off. This data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to your personal identity. You can opt out by disabling cookies in your browser settings.

Most browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies through their settings. Disabling all cookies will prevent login from working.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for commercial purposes.

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Payment processors: to complete transactions, as described above
  • Email service providers: to send transactional emails (order confirmations, course access details). These providers process your email address on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose.
  • Legal requirements: if required by Kenyan law, a court order, or a lawful government request, we may disclose information we hold. We will notify you if we are permitted to do so.

Data Retention

We keep your account and purchase data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after, in case of disputes or queries about past purchases.

If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain records of financial transactions.

Technical and usage data is retained in aggregate form and does not identify you personally.

Your Rights

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Objection — object to how we process your data in certain circumstances
  • Portability — request your data in a portable, machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 21 days. We do not charge a fee for reasonable requests.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the site changes — new payment methods, new features, or changes in applicable law. When we do, we update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

Significant changes will be communicated by email to registered users. Continuing to use the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
